The Others takes place on the island of Jersey, in the English Channel, shortly after the Second World War ended. Grace (Nicole Kidman) lives with her children Anne (Alakina Mann) and Nicholas (James Bentley) on an isolated Victorian property. She has no news from her husband who probably died in the war. From one day to the other, all servants disappeared without giving prior notice.One day, three servants, Mrs. Mills (Fionnula Flanagan), Mr. Tuttle (Eric Sykes) and Lydia (Elaine Cassidy), ask for work in and around the house. Grace seems to have expected them whereas the three seem surprised. Grace tells them some basic facts about the house: there is no telephone, no radio and no electricity in the house. And some basic rules: "no door must be opened unless the one before is closed". With 50 doors and 15 keys not an easy task. Furthermore, the curtains must be closed before the children enter a room because Anne and Nicholas suffer from a terrible illness and cannot stand the light.
